White Winter

With gusts of tumbling snow
White winter has long thrived
Colorful flowers no longer grow
And gardens have been deprived

Birds have flown to far away land
And gardens exist only in words
Ohh.. I miss the sparkling sun
And the chirping of morning birds

Lonely cold wind whispers at night
As autumn slowly turns into winter
Leafless trees stand alone like knights
While golden leaves lay on ground

Slowly snow shall cover them all up
With love and warmth of white quilt
As if nature wants them to sleep
Till spring brings along cheerful life...

  1. Lovely poem with beautiful imagery. I liked the way you portrayed the resilience of trees by comparing them to knights.

  8. Oh, I definitely miss the sparkling sun and the birds too. I think it is good to think that the layer of snow I see outside DOES protect life and that in spring the 'cheerful life' will be reborn anew. Thank goodness for the cycle of life.

  9. That's not long to wait before winter is gone. But waiting for spring somehow is a long wait! Beautiful write Ankita!

  11. I like that you bring out the warmth of snow. That it is a protective insulation to sleeping life is rarely understood.

  14. "And gardens have been deprived" Such a bleak statement, so bleak until the cheer of that last stanza. Very nice.
